Introduction to Our Full Time Course

Thank you for your interest in Bellissimo Academy and the full-time hairdressing course. Please contact us on 061-317541 to get the brochure for this year’s full time course. The course is 12 months in duration and the course commences dates are Monday 24th June 2013, and Monday 23rd September 2013. At the end of the course students have final exams and model presentations for the World Federation of Hairdressing and Beauty Schools who supervise and mark the exams and award the certificates. As you are possibly aware there is an extraordinary amount of interest in the course each year and as class size is limited selection for the course is on an interview basis.

As a future hairdresser you will meet with new people daily on a one to one basis and they will form their impressions of you as to how comfortable and confident they would be having you doing their hair. The interviews are aimed to be similar, a relaxed informal chat to get an idea as to how well you would interact with customers. It provides us with the best possible opportunity to assess each candidate’s suitability as well as the courses suitability to their needs.

The academy fees for the year are €5,500. Advice on finance packages is available for students through the academy. Last year finance was arranged through the banks involving a student loan for the complete course fee. Please contact us for an application form. Upon receipt of your application form we will schedule a mutually suitable interview time.

Bellissimo Limerick began with fourteen staff almost ten years ago and since then has expanded and evolved, currently more than ninety passionate and talented people work in the complex! Bellissimo has won an unprecedented number of awards in hairdressing at national, European and world competitions. Our growth is a testament to our continuous focus on customer care, our absolute commitment to training and education and our belief and efforts to strive to constantly make small improvements in what we do.

Hairdressing in Ireland is still unregulated despite the best efforts of the larger salons and the Irish Hairdressers Federation. Unlike the beauty industry, there isn’t a recognised qualification in hairdressing in Ireland as there isn’t a legal requirement for qualifications or regulatory body to ensure compliance. Until this situation changes the Irish Hairdressing Federation will not recognise any qualification, City and Guilds, NVQ, FETAC, World Federation of Hairdressing & Beauty Schools or any other. Although these certificates are invaluable to a hairdresser abroad the Irish industry generally employs on the basis of trade testing.

A trade test basically involves performing several cuts/colours on models for the salon considering offering employment. Our primary reason for choosing the World Federation of Hairdressing & Beauty Schools as academic partners has been their curriculum’s predominant focus on practical work, you cannot learn to drive a car in a classroom and the same is true of hairdressing. Hairdressing students need to study and understand the fundamental theory of everything they do but have to gain the opportunity of working at every available opportunity with models, practising and honing their craft and skills.

Bellissimo Academy has a constant throughput of models and students do an immense amount of practical work in a focussed and supervised environment. Students who apply themselves to the task are more than ready to do up-styles, perms and cut, colour and blow-dry their models in their exams after twelve months. More than what would normally be required by salons trade testing. Students are surrounded by some of the very best in the Irish hairdressing industry today. The entire salon team is an array of talent, trophies in the IHF for the past six years, trainers for Wella, artistic team for the Rose of Tralee for the past six years, four Wella Master Colour Award technicians and past pupils from the course now stylists in this dynamic environment. Salon experience provides students the opportunit to be paired up with individual senior stylists from this elite pool of trainers.
