In 1998 former hairdresser Michael O’Connor opened the first Bellissimo complex in the Galway Retail Park on the Headford Road. Based on his years of experience, Bellissimo fulfilled his concept of a one-stop shop for beauty, providing clients with every conceivable treatment all under one roof! Bellissimo incorporated a large hair salon, extensive private beauty rooms, nail studio and coffee house, all in one 6000 sq ft complex.
The immediate appeal and success of Bellissimo led to opening a second complex in Limerick in 1999. Bellissimo Limerick has grown very successfully to date currently employing over 60 personnel. Bellissimo Limerick has 15 private beauty rooms, a nail studio and an impressive ground floor hair salon. In 2004, having reached capacity within the existing salon, plans were underway to expand the salon and to open an academy. December 2004 saw the new salon operational with over 5000 sq ft of space dedicated to those passionate about hairdressing. The academy launched in February 2005.
The new salon is over twice the size of the original and our design concept was to reflect a physical embodiment of our philosophy and also to successfully merge the additional space seamlessly. Our objectives were to create an environment where clients feel relaxed and comfortable. Soft whites, creams and mahogany set a relaxed tone, with clean sharp lines and polished porcelain tiles. Bright lights provide the environment for technical excellence in all aspects of hairdressing, especially colour. The Welonda furniture is stylish yet understated and perfectly compliments this minimalist environment.
On the practical functioning of a salon of this scale, great time and effort was invested in the design to benefit clients and staff, regarding time in motion and productivity. A centrally located colour section (based on the cocktail bar concept) allows colour technicians to mix colour for the entire salon also updating our client colour records on computer, this allows each stylist significantly more “client time” The salon co-ordinator utilises this section as the phone and computer are also located here.
A customised computer system communicates with the main reception desk and all appointments are updated in real time, (arrivals, any changes etc.). Conversely all changes at the colour section will update at reception, allowing for a docket-less payment system and avoiding congestion at the reception area.
